PARTICIPATION GUIDELINES
Most of the guidelines for participation are designed to help the group stay on subject and to allow members to get as much out of their participation as possible.
The group will involve a combination of instruction by the group leader and discussion by the members. It is expected that everyone will contribute in some way to the discussions.
MSCFV will contact the abuser's victim to encourage the reporting of any further abuse immediately. MSCFV's educational and counseling services are also offered to the victim at that time.
Four main focal points are addressed during the program.
- The cultural, traditional and attitudinal foundations of violence and family abuse are examined.
- Society's beliefs and past sanctions of violent behavior are continually explored and challenged.
- Options and alternatives to violence are discussed, demonstrated and endorsed with emphasis on management and technique.
- Developing an efficient level of communication by focusing on listening rather than telling and a "we" instead of "me" approach to settling differences.
