Cycle of Abuse
The cycle of violence is characterized by the three phases outlined below. This cycle is representative of the pattern that abusers and victims go through during an abusive relationship.
Typically, victims will experience this cycle multiple times prior to seeking outside assistance. In addition, the victim will continue this cycle 5-8 times prior to leaving the relationship permanently.
Finally, as this cycle repeats itself the time between each phase decreases and the intensity of the violent outbreak increases becoming more dangerous each time the victim goes through the cycle.
